Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We've Got Answers

We value the relationships we have with our clients. They entrust us with their most valuable business data and we take great care to provide them with the best possible database experience – often going well beyond what is considered ‘close enough’ by other developers.

The following questions provide some understanding of how we work and what it’ll take to build a new database for your organisation. While this might answer some of your initial questions nothing beats a discussion over the phone or a face-to-face meeting.

If you’ve got other questions that we haven’t covered here or you’re ready to take the next step, give us a call on 0419 324 385 or submit an enquiry and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

We’re here to help

What services do you provide?

We specialise in the development and maintenance of FileMaker Pro databases. We manage all aspects of developing a new database for you including, requirements analysis, interface design, system development, system testing, user training, user documentation, system installation and maintenance. Our FileMaker solutions can be used on desktop computers in the office, on iPads/iPhones in the field or anywhere in the world you have access to a web browser. To learn more about how we can assist you, check the Services section of our website.

How long does it take to build a database?

How long is a piece of string? The time required to build a new FileMaker solution is directly related to the documented scope of work (system requirements). When asked this question we generally draw an analogy between building a database and building a house. Houses come in all shapes and sizes; single storey or double story, single bedroom or five bedrooms, single bathroom or an ensuite to accompany each bedroom. Will plumbing fixtures be standard issue or designer fittings finished in gold plate.  In either case the finished result is still considered a house but the cost and time required to build each house will vary greatly depending on the agreed specifications.

We’ll work with you to establish a documented set of requirements that we’ll use as a blueprint for our development work. As a guide, a simple database may take a few weeks, a more complex solution may take several month. We require your feedback during the testing phase so delays in the review process will delay system implementation. By establishing a project plan at the start and keeping you informed during the development process, you’ll have a good understanding of what has been done and what’s still remaining .

How much will it cost?

The cost of building a new database is dependent on the scope of work involved (see the answer to How long does it take to build a database?). We endeavour to work with our clients and provide a variety of support options that match the scope of work and their budget/cashflow.

Ad-hoc Support
Our standard rate for ad-hoc development is $160 per/hr. For clients working with us in this way we invoice our support time on the 15th and last day of each calendar month (for periods where support time has been logged). Our invoices provide a full record of the chargeable and non-chargeable time logged during the relevant invoice period. Invoices are payable in 14 days.

Fixed Quote Projects
Where the scope of work is clearly understood by both parties and has been documented we can provide a fixed price quotation. Changes in scope will be accommodated by additional change request quotes, allowing both parties to have a full understanding of the work required and the associated budget.

In all cases we use our discretion when logging support time. We bill to the nearest 15 minute increment and mark our time sheets as No Charge if we feel that re-work has been required due to a flaw in our initial development.

What sort of hardware will I need to run the database?

The FileMaker Platform is a line of products that work together across iPad, iPhone, Windows and Mac to streamline your business. Exact hardware requirements will depend on the devices you will be using to access your database. Overall hardware requirements can be found on the FileMaker website. If you’d prefer to chat, call Shaun on 0419 324 385 or submit an enquiry via the contact page.

What support do you offer?

We provide ongoing phone, email and onsite support for all FileMaker solutions. Where possible, we use remote control software to access your database from our office, implementing minor updates quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
